Because the water service for all of Incline Village and Crystal Bay is taken directly from Lake Tahoe, it has been determined that the level of threat to the IVGID Potable Water System from Aquatic Invasive Species is great enough to begin boat ramp restrictions immediately.  The IVGID Boat ramp will begin following the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Code Amendments adopted at the TRPA Governing Board Meeting on September 24, 2008.  These code amendments require that boat ramps and other boat launching facilities be closed when Invasive Species Inspectors are not present beginning on November 1, 2008.  Ski Beach Boat Ramp will implement the closure schedule as stated below starting September 26, 2008, until further notice:

IVGID’s Ski Beach Boat Ramp will be open between 8:00am – 4:00pm, 7 days per week

As those of you who have used the ramp recently are very well aware, we do have low water challenges now. This schedule will continue as long as we have enough lake level to operate the ramp safely, or until further action by TRPA provides for additional inspector hours. A new gate at the ramp will be installed soon. In the interim, the main Ski Beach entry gate at Lakeshore Boulevard, will be closed and locked between the hours of 4:00 pm and 8:00 am to follow the intent of the TRPA ordinance. For those interested in using other features of the Ski Beach area, the picnic facilities or volleyball courts for example, please access the beach through the Incline Beach side and walk across the bridge between the two parks.

While this action may be viewed by a few as drastic, it is IVGID's responsibility to protect the entire community's water supply and it is with this responsibility that IVGID requests everyone's cooperation and understanding.
